what is the KNX system?

We use the European standard called KNX for your building's automation.

Therefore, our products can connect to one system, allowing you to control your entire building from one wall device, touch screen, or mobile app.

Our choice to use KNX comes from a decade of experience in the industry and a deep understanding of the pros and cons of each building automation system on the global market.

of European automated homes and buildings use KNX—for a reason.

90%

KNX has lasted several decades, so it is robust and trustworthy as a system.

500

different maunfacturer’s around the world make KNX products

You can mix and match different products from different KNX brands at any point without changing your initial system, making KNX a future-proof solution.

Want to change your lighting control device in 10 years? No problem—you have many choices from hundreds of suppliers because you chose KNX.

Does that sound like freedom? It does to us.

Several Decades

KNX evolution since 1989

Three building management standards, which started in 1989, merged to form the KNX standard we know today. KNX has been leading the global building automation market for over thirty years.

The European secret to controlling luxury buildings

You may have read that Habit uses KNX as a building system of choice. Are you still trying to understand what that means?

Think of a building system as the following: As you build your new house, if you choose to automate your building, cables are installed in your walls and floors.

These cables in your new build connect to your building technology, which includes elevated light switches, presence detectors, motorised blinds, air conditioning, audio, intercoms, etc. This allows you to control your entire building through one device and one app instead of multiple devices and apps.

A decade of building technology experience increased our discernment for you

You get numerous building systems available on the market. We have been in the sector for over a decade. For our homes, we tried and tested KNX as a building system.

We loved the robustness and the ability to mix and match products from different brands that other building systems on the market don't offer. KNX is the only building automation system that allows this mixing and matching of products.

Sometimes, you may overlook the initial details of a building system. It's not your fault as there is way too much for you to consider with all the details that go into your new build, but in hindsight, you may regret being limited with only building technology choices that one supplier offers for decades to come.

A timeless building system, which will allow you ease of use for decades.

Imagine you choose KNX. How would this look? Your elevated light switch, thermostat, touch screen, etc may be from different brands but connected to the same KNX system. Consider it like decorating your house; you may want your couch, coffee table, and rug from a different supplier.

You would want that choice to mix and match furniture from other suppliers/ stores creatively. For that reason, KNX will always be our building automation system of choice.

A tip to increase the luxury aesthetic in your new build.

Save energy

save 25% on your energy bills

Hotels' energy bills on average contribute to around 6 percent of the operating expenses. For hotels around 50-150 rooms, they spend daily on average roughly between 2,500 kWh and 7,500 kWh.

In South Africa electricity is roughly between R1.84 per kWh to around R2.07 per kWh. This means that a hotel with 50-100 rooms can be spending roughly between R4600-R15 525 daily.

The new European genre of building management can save up to 25 per cent on your overall energy bills.

With the above stats, this could look anywhere between roughly savings of R400 000 to R1,4 million per annum. Necessarily energy saving systems are a necessity.

In hotels saving energy typically wouldn't even be possible as even the hotel guests leave lights and air conditioners running in their bedrooms. Training one's staff on how to save energy in the building is possible, but it still relies on commitment from staff and is overlooked as not a necessity in their day-to-day responsibilities.

Stop losing money,

stop losing up to 1 million rand yearly on operating expenses in your luxury hotel

The KNX room sensor, as seen above on the wall, intelligently saves energy. The sensor detects vacancy in a hotel room and switches off the lighting, air conditioning, and under-floor heating when the room is vacant, preventing wasted energy consumption.
